Reader's Block

Is it just me, or do you ever go through stages where you just don't want to read. Or you just can't seem to get into any books? Well, that is what I have been going through lately. For some reason I have a low motivation to really read right now. I am always wanting to find an amazing book, like Twilight or Goose Girl. Where you can just get lost in the story and fall in love with the characters. I have slowly been reading "A Curse as Dark as Gold", and I like it so far but just can't seem to really get into it. So, should I just force myself to sit down and read, or should I wait until the reading bug bites?

I'm hoping this slump will get over soon, then I can get back to reading a book a day and writing fun posts. So bear with me while I go through my little moment.

  1. Yes, I know exactly what you mean! Just like sometimes all food seems unappealing...And I myself had a really hard time with Curse. I thought I was going to love it, but finally I had to admit that I wasn't.

But if you want a list of really good 2008 sci. fi/fantasy books, I have the list of everything nominated for the Cybils, with links to reviews by the panelists, up at my place (there's a link at the top right of the first page). We have been so impressed so far with the wonderful books nominated!

  3. Charlotte, Thanks for the suggestion! There are a lot of books on that list, I'm excited to explore and see what I find!

  4. I wouldn't force it. I've gone through that before and ruined a couple perfectly good books by forcing myself to read them at the wrong time. I usually switch to watching a string of movies or something until the bug comes back.

  5. So, I just stumbled onto your blog and really enjoyed it! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE "Cry of the Icemark." I love the sequel even better and am waiting for Amazon to speed up and mail me the last one so I can FINALLY read it.

Thanx for nominating me for that blog award...though I don't do much to my bookblog. What a though..I think I'll update it soon!

  6. This is old, but don't give up on A CURSE DARK AS GOLD. It gets better..the last half of the book you can't put down. If you want beautiful writing, this is an award winning book, full of descriptive scenes and characters and twists that I could have never figured out. Ms.Bunce has a new book coming out in the fall, 2010, STAR CROSSED, said to be another hit.
