The Cottage by Coniston by Deborah M Hathaway

The Cottage by Coniston by Deborah M. Hathaway
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this one, delightful!

I thought this was a fun story with an endearing plot. Miss Amy Paxton had a hard time keeping her opinions to herself, her blunt manner tends to scare off potential suitors. She resorts to asking her brother to make all her decisions for her in an attempt to finally find a husband! I liked Amy, even if she can be a bit harsh at times. I liked that our hero wasn't intimidated by her and could dish it out and keep her on her toes. I thought they had good chemistry.

The story was well-written and kept me glued to the pages. I enjoyed the side characters and the charming setting. I love that Ms. Hathaway always introduces us to new and beautiful parts of England. Ms. Hathaway is such a gifted writer, you can tell she really puts a lot of effort into her books. I love that she stays true to the time period she is writing in, which helps me as a reader get immersed into the setting and characters.

Overall, a very charming regency and one I would easily recommend to any fan of the genre.

To Warm a Wintered Heart by Deborah Hathaway

To Warm a Wintered HeartTo Warm a Wintered Heart by Deborah M. Hathaway
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I've enjoyed Ms. Hathaway's other books and was excited when she wrote another regency. And isn't that cover pretty?!?!?!

Our heroine Charlotte is kind and spunky and was a likable lead. Gabriel has his issues, but was likable in his own way. He spends a good chunk of the story avoiding his feelings for Charlotte, which can be entertaining at times. Charlotte and Gabriel get off to a rocky start, he's broody and standoffish and she is friendly and kind. A kindness he misinterprets as her wanting to catch a husband. Throughout the book they kind of bounce around from friendship to frenemies and have some fun back-and-forth. Of course, stories like this can make you want to shake the characters at times.

Overall, this is a sweet romance, with charming settings and likable characters. It has all the elements that I enjoy in a regency woven into a sweet story of two people having to overcome personal and outside obstacles to be together. Recommend to fans of sweet regency romances.

Content: Clean romance, no language, and mild violence

When Two Rivers Meet by Deborah Hathaway

Almost four years after coming out into society as an accomplished young woman, Miss Lilyanna Crosgrove has become tired with her way of life at Heatherhill, the stately home she lives in right outside of Bath. Her mother decides what Lilyanna does and whom she speaks with each day. And when Lilyanna comes to discover what she wishes for most in life, as well as in a future companion, her desires remain unheard. One evening, however, Lilyanna's life promises to change forever when Mr. Elijah Bainbridge, a man as caring as he is handsome, asks her for a dance. Through various assemblies and balls, entertaining dinner parties, and horse rides across the green countryside, their attraction to each other grows. Their relationship does not come without difficulty, however, as outside forces, including an unrelenting suitor and a secret from Elijah's past, will stop at nothing to keep the couple apart. Will Lilyanna and Elijah waver under the pressure of cruel rumors and persistent threats? Or will they be able to join together, eventually overcoming the opposition surrounding their union?

Sweet Regency Romance

I was excited to receive a review copy of When Two Rivers Meet and couldn’t wait to get started. I enjoyed Ms. Hathaway’s first book and since Regencies are a weakness of mine, I knew I would enjoy this one as well.

I thought this was a sweet, pleasant read. Lilyanna is trying hard to be a dutiful, perfect daughter. Unfortunately, her mother has rather high, unobtainable expectations. As Lilyanna starts to receive the attention of two very different gentlemen she realizes she doesn’t want to spend her life making other people happy at the expense of her own happiness. It was nice to see Lilyanna stand up for herself and what she believed in. As time goes on, she quickly realizes she is developing real feelings for Mr. Elijah Bainbridge. Both Elijah and Lilyanna were likable characters and have a sweet relationship. Outside forces may be trying to keep them apart, but they work together to keep their connection alive and fight for a way to be together. I have to say, Lilyanna's mother drove me nuts, I wanted to shake some sense into her. She was true to the time period though. It always makes me wonder how many happy couples were broken up because of "well meaning" parents meddling in things.

I thought this was an enjoyable read and a pleasant way to pass the time. It kind of reminded me of the Proper Romance line that Shadow Mountain publishing has. Overall, an enjoyable read and one I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys sweet regencies.

This heartwarming romance novel reveals that when the love between two people is real, it can exceed all obstacles.

Review

I really enjoyed this one. I was quickly sucked into the story by Emma’s endearing character. I thought Emma was really likable, a bit shy at times, but a sweetheart. Thatcher was a doll, I fell for him right off the bat, just like Emma. I thought they had good chemistry and some really nice moments together (Mmmm, kissing in the rain!). It really is a sweet story and full of that good old western charm. I even got a kick out of snobbish Nancy Jane, she was quite mean-spirited, but added a fun element to the story.  I thought the story was well written and moved along nicely. I also liked Eliza, Seth and James who were all fun characters and added a lot to the story. I’ll definitely be rereading this one! Overall, a very enjoyable read, at times it reminded me of Marcia McClure (which is a good thing), so if you enjoy her books you’ll enjoy this one just as much!

Thanks so much to the author for a review copy, I loved the story and look forward to reading more from Deborah McBride Hathaway!
