Author's Corner: Teresa McCarthy

Welcome to Author's Corner hosted by Bookworm NationKatie's Clean Book Collection and KJ's Book Nook! Once a month we will feature either a favorite author or new to us author. We will share the author's bio, one of our favorite books of theirs and a review. Each of us will be featuring a different author each month so there will also be links to each of our posts.

For this month's Author's Corner I am going to choose...

Teresa McCarthy

A few years ago I discovered Traditional Regency romances, and I was hooked! On my search for good clean regencies I came upon Teresa McCarthy. I read her book The Rejected Suitor and knew I had to get my hands on her other books. I've really enjoyed all of them, even her contemporaries. Sadly, its been a couple years since she's published a book and her online profiles (website, etc) are gone. Not sure what happened, but I still love her books and wanted to do a spotlight on her since I think my followers would enjoy her books as well.

Teresa has mostly written in the Regency genre, but does have a few spin-off contemporaries that are also a lot of fun. I think she's a great storyteller, her books are well written and have a nice flow to them. She's written about eleven books and I really enjoyed them all. Like I mentioned above, the first book I read of hers was the Rejected Suitor - a fun second-chance at love type story. Lots of great tension, misunderstanding and swoony romance.

This one has a few different covers, which one's your favorite??

Valentine's Reads: Favorite Couples

Happy Valentine's Day!

I have always loved Valentine's Day, even the many times I was single, I still think its a great holiday. I like the idea of having a day where you let the people you love know how much they mean to you. Since the holiday really revolves around couples, I thought I'd write up a quick post with a few of my favorite book couples. As you may already have noticed, I love reading romance. I love seeing people fall in love, but there are always a few couples that stand out from the rest. So here are a few of my favorite book couples, chosen at random from my Favorite Couples Shelf on Goodreads.

Weathered Too Young by Marcia McClure
Lark Lawrence and Slater Evans

These two have great chemistry! He's lived a rough life, but has a fun side underneath all his gruff. Lark is a sweetheart, always taking care of those around her. Her kindness and charm quickly endear her to Slater and he just can't help keeping her for himself.

Working it Out by Rachael Anderson
Grace Warren and Seth Tuttle

I love when our lead characters really help each other grow and bring out the best in each other. Grace and Seth have great chemistry and some fun moments together. You can't help rooting for them to end up together.

The Guise of a Gentleman by Donna Hatch
Elise Berkley and Jared Amesbury

Jared and Elise are total opposites, he's a swashbuckling pirate and she's a prim and proper English lady. There's more than what's meets the eye with these two though, and they simply can't resist each other. I loved these two! They may be opposites, but definitely work well together.

The Rejected Suitor by Teresa McCarthy
Emily Clearbrook and Jared Ashton

Lost love stories always add a delicious level of tension that I just can't get enough of. Emily can hold her own with alpha-male Jared. They have great chemistry and a lot of obstacles to overcome to get to their happily ever after.

Pimpernel by Sheralyn Pratt
Claire Ramsey and Jack Cavanaugh

Oh boy! This is a fun adventure and Jack is quite charming! I thought they had fun chemistry and I liked that Jack just can't live without his Claire. I'm hoping that there will be more books in this series, because I want to see these characters again!

The Unflappable Miss Fairchild by Regina Scott
Anne Fairchild and Chas Prestwick

Okay, if you like a funny and lighthearted heroine giving a charming rake a run for his money, then read this book!  I really liked how there seemed to be a genuine friendship between Chas and Anne that naturally grew to love. This also happens to be one of my favorite regencies!

***********************************

It was really hard to narrow it down to just these few and in making this list it just reminded me of how much I love to read. I love meeting new characters, the trials they have to go through and the romance (of course). Reading really is the best pastime.

Hope you all have a very Happy Valentine's Day!

Rescuing Rebecca by Teresa McCarthy

Rescuing Rebecca (Clearbrook Abbey, #1)Rescuing Rebecca by Teresa McCarthy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I've been a big fan of Ms. McCarthy's for a long time now and was very excited when I heard she would be writing a regency novella series. This was a fun read, quick read. Fit well with my busy schedule. Rebecca was a likable character. A daughter of an Earl who has been sent to work at Clearbrook Abbey, a school for young girls. The school has recently gained attention when a rumor begins to spread about a secret treasure that has been hidden away for years. Captain Argyle has been hired to keep an eye on the school. Rebecca and the Captain are thrown together and sparks fly. While their relationship was rather quick, it was fun and filled with chemistry. I thought they were cute together. Overall, I thought this was a very fun read and a nice escape. Would recommend to any regency fan.

Friday Favorites

Friday Favorites is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings, that spotlights a favorite author, book, series, publisher, cover, blog, etc. Basically whatever bookish thing that I love, recommend, and want to tell others about. Anyone is welcome to join along. Just pick one and jump over to Wishful Endings to leave a link to share with everyone.

This is my first time participating in Wishful Endings Favorite Fridays. I was debating on what to do for my first post. One of my favorite genres is Regency, but there are so many books I love it's hard to narrow down. So then I thought, why not share my five favorite Regency authors. Which is also hard to narrow down, but a little easier. Anyway, here are just a few of my favorite authors. I actually have quite a few go-to authors for this genre, but decided to post about the ones that are actively publishing today. Some of my favorite authors no longer write or their books are out of print. So, in random order, here you go:

Julianne Donaldson
Ms. Donaldson has only published two books so far, but both were amazing. Her first book, Edenbrooke was a huge success and continues to be a favorite book of mine. It's sweet and romantic and just a fun escape into the past. I eagerly look forward to more of her books. I read recently she is on her way over to Scotland to do some research for her next book. Can't wait!

Teresa McCarthy
I stumbled upon Ms. McCarthy's books a few years ago, I believe they were out of print at the time. I read Rejected Suitor and fell in love. I bought up all her books and devoured them all. She recently had her older books converted for Kindle and now all are available online. She also wrote a contemporary series that is loads of fun. She currently has ten published books and one on the way. If you haven't read her books before, you're missing out.

Sarah M. Eden

Um, hello. I'd be lying if I said I was a fan of Ms. Edens. I'm a Super Fan. I came across her books on Goodreads over six years ago when they were currently out of print. I tried really hard to get my hands on a copy, but wasn't able to. She finally got her books republished and I was first in line to grab one. Initially I was just curious and wanted to give her a try, after that first book I was hooked and am always stalking her website to see when her next book is coming out. Love her books.

Donna Hatch
I believe I found Ms. Hatch through Amazon. Their handy Book Recommendation popped up with The Guise of a Gentleman as something I may be interested in. The synopsis sounded intriguing and so I gave it a try. I'm so glad I did. This is one of my favorite series now, I've read it a few times as well as everything else Ms. Hatch has published. She is an excellent storyteller and her books will also suck me right in. Can't wait for more!

Jennifer Moore
Ms. Moore is a new favorite of mine. She has three books out right now and each one just gets better and better. Not only do her books have gorgeous covers, the characters are enchanting and stories fresh. She became an autobuy author for me after just one book.

The Duke's Bride by Teresa McCarthy

The Duke's BrideThe Duke's Bride by Teresa McCarthy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is one of my favorite Regency series, I love the Clearbrooks. It was fun seeing some of the past characters in this one, and fun to finally get the Duke and Jane’s story (which can stand on its own). I was excited when I found out they were getting their own book. I haven’t read too many regencies where the couple was already married and I was looking forward to this type of relationship dynamic.

The book starts with the Duke and Jane meeting for the first time (which happened in a previous book, but was a good reminder to me and fun to see from their perspective). I was glad we got to see how they met and a bit of their early courting. We then jump into the story about five years later and the happy couple are facing some serious issues.

Jane is a well developed character. Everyone underestimates her, including her husband. She really has to grow and learn how to stand up for herself, which she does splendidly. I really liked Jane and felt her pain. What a hard situation she was in and very frustrating. It’s true, a little level-headed communication would have gone a long way to solve everyone’s problems, but it’s always easy to say that when you’re on the outside looking in. There were times I wanted to step into the book and shake the Duke, but I could also see things from his perspective and could understand some of his reasoning. I loved that even though things were rough; they never stopped loving each other and were always loyal to one another.

I enjoyed reading this one, I had a hard time putting it down and there were even a few twists that I didn’t see coming. As hard it as it was to see these two make some poor choices, in the long run it probably made their relationship stronger. Sometimes we learn how much we care about someone by going through trials together.

Overall, an enjoyable read and a fun addition to the series. I hope Captain Argyle gets his own book, poor guy really needs his own happily ever after!
