For This We Are Soldiers: Tales of the Frontier Army by Carla Kelly
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Isn’t that a beautiful cover? I’m such a sucker for a pretty book cover, this one caught my eye and made me want to pick it up and dive in.
This is a collection of six stories, I believe four had been previously published, but was fun to have them all together in one collection. Ms. Kelly is a master at writing historical fiction. She really brings whatever time period she is writing to life. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped back into time, becoming immersed in the characters, setting and day to day lives of people of the time. I love reading historicals because it gives me a chance to step out of my comfort zone and see things from a totally different perspective.
I think I’ve read more of Ms. Kelly’s regencies, but I have really come to love her American Historicals as well, especially these that are set during the Civil War. It’s such a fascinating time in our country’s history and I love the different views Kelly gives us in each unique story.
Overall, this was a nice collection of novellas, I’d recommend to any fan of the historical genre.
