Oh, Come On: Be Faithful by Cami Checketts

Oh, Come On: Be Faithful (Countdown to Christmas #3)Oh, Come On: Be Faithful by Cami Checketts
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5

Cute! This was a fun story, likable characters. I love books that take place in my home state of Utah. It’s almost like a visit home when I get to read a story that takes place there. This one happens to take place in Midway, a very beautiful part of the state. Made for a great setting, especially picturing all the snow and holiday cheer.

Mikayla has a stalker, for the past four years someone has been sending threatening notes and photos, but the recently the contact has gotten more violent. When the head of her security retires, she hires Matt Degan to head up her security and play her faux boyfriend. Matt and his cute son move into her mansion and pretty quickly the line between work and romance blurs. There’s an instant attraction for both of them and the more time they spend together the more they come to care for each other.

While I did enjoy this one, I thought the stalker stuff could have been amped up a little more. The suspense was kind of lacking, always seemed to be more in the background and the bad guy reveal felt a little off. And the storyline with the sister could have been developed a little more.

Overall though, I thought it was a fun read and kept me turning the pages. I liked the characters, the kids were cute, and the setting was fun. The Christmas elements were a little low-key, so this story could really be read any time during the year.

Content: Clean romance, just kisses. No language and very mild violence.

Happily Ever After Thursday

We are so excited for our first annual
Have Yourself a Very Swoony Christmas event,

Many book characters seem to become a part of our lives.
Sometimes we really want to get to know them better
and enjoy their romance for just a little bit longer.
Each Thursday, we will be spotlighting
one of our swoony Christmas couples.

This week, we'll be getting to know
Charlee & Ryan
from More Trouble in Loveland by Jennifer Peel.

1. What do you like to do on a romantic date?

We love to head up to one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Estes Park to have dinner and then walk the Riverwalk.

2. What do you like most about each other?

Our fierce loyalty and how we support each other’s goals and dreams.

3. What is your favorite way to spend time together?

Hanging out with our son, shooting hoops, or cuddling on the couch together watching a movie. And of course, jumping on the trampoline.

4. What are three things on your bucket list?

Run the Boston Marathon (that’s more Ryan, but since I love him so much, I’ll play along or basically die with him doing it.)

Attend the NBA Championship Series games.

Go to Northern Wales and bounce on the world’s largest underground trampoline.

5. What is “your song”?

Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran (It was the first song we ever danced to.)

6. What is the craziest date you’ve been on?

For Ryan’s 34th birthday I made him a scavenger hunt complete with a map and clues leading to his buried birthday present. My favorite part of the night was watching him sing karaoke to My Girl to get one of his clues.

7. What is your favorite holiday tradition?

Sleeping under the Christmas Tree. No children allowed.

8. How would you describe each other to someone else in three words?

Ryan would describe Charlee as annoyingly-charming, spontaneous, beautiful-heart.

Charlee would describe Ryan as all-mine, the-best-of-the-best, thoughtful.

A Christmas Seduction by Kristin Vayden, Nadine Millard, Rachel VanDyken

A Christmas SeductionA Christmas Seduction by Rachel Van Dyken
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

War! The three Bright sisters have been at war with the three Ashbury brothers for all their lives. Thrown together for summer and winter holidays, they’ve been battling for as long as they can remember. The stories open three years after their last visit, as the sisters are arriving for a Christmas visit, they’re making plans to finally win the war.

I debated how to review this set, individually or as a whole. I guess I’ll do a little of both. To be honest, all three stories are very similar. Since each story focuses on a different set of relationships, but all happening during the same time/events. I actually read them out of order, which didn’t lessen my enjoyment at all.

I loved the idea for this collection- enemies since childhood, constantly pulling pranks on each other. But, I did feel that the jump from enemies to lovers was a little too quick in each story. I would have liked to see a little more feuding maybe? Some stories transitioned a little better than others. But since they’re short stories it makes sense that relationship move quickly.

Taming the Earl by Kristin Vayden
I ended up reading this one last, but really enjoyed it and it was *almost* my favorite. Probably my favorite couple of the three. Lucas and Meredith have great chemistry and fun banter. It was well written and really pulled me in, even though I knew what was coming, it still kept me engaged. I would have loved this, but the very end pushed the content for me.

Content: Steamy, not clean. Wedding “night”, undressing and nudity, but fades to black.

Christmas Kisses by Nadine Millard
I jumped to this one first because I love Ms. Millard’s books! Louisa and Hugh are a fun couple. When they see their older siblings getting along, they hatch a plan to keep the two apart. Which ends up putting them together more often, causing them to view each other differently. I liked this one, thought it was fun. The cleanest of all three, so if you read any read this one. :)

Content: Clean, mild innuendo and kissing.

Mistletoe for Sara by Rachel VanDyken
I was really looking forward to this one because Sara and Jackson had great chemistry from the previous story. Sparks were flying! Learning their past, I also expected a little more depth to their relationship. It did seem things moved rather quickly, from declaring their feelings to wanting sex basically instantly. Ended up feeling that they fell in lust, not love. My least favorite of the three.

Content: Not clean. Nudity, premarital sex/foreplay (was interrupted before consummated, rest of closed door)

So overall, I really liked the idea for the stories. I liked the banter and tension before they realize their feelings. I wish the concept/plot could be developed into just one full-length novel. While each story/couple was different, they also felt very similar. Similar setting, events and relationship development. I also wish they would have been a cleaner, it would have been a five star otherwise.

Sawdust and Mistletoe by Michelle Pennington

Sawdust and MistletoeSawdust and Mistletoe by Michelle Pennington
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I ended up really enjoying this one! This is my first book by Ms. Pennington and I'm so glad I gave it a try, I enjoyed the story and characters and look forward to reading more from this author.

I enjoyed the story of Ava and Hunter, they have fun chemistry and a believable romance. The setting and plot were also engaging, I loved the Christmas setting. Ava was a likable heroine, easy to relate to and root for. Hunter was charming and handsome, and just an all around nice guy. Overall, I thought it was a fun read and one I'd recommend to any fan of contemporary romance.

Whispering Wednesday

We are so excited for our first annual
Have Yourself a Very Swoony Christmas event,

We're so excited about Whispering Wednesday!
Each Wednesday, we will be having a different author
answering some of our burning questions.

Next up, we have one of our favorite swoony clean authors,
Jennifer Peel!

Let's get to know her a little bit better:

1. What gives you inspiration for your characters and story lines?

Life experiences, stories on the news, my children and husband, friends, people watching, my dreams.

2. Which are your top five favorite kissing scenes from your books?

Meg and Zander’s first kiss in Statistically Improbable.

Sam and Paige’s first kiss on the beach in Paige’s Turn.

Cole and Jillian’s first kiss as strangers on a plane in the Pianos and Promises series.

Charlee and Ryan’s first kiss after the One Republic concert in Trouble in Loveland.

Cheyenne and Aidan’s first kiss in Cheyenne. There is something about two people hating each other, but they really don’t and the fireworks that happen when they kiss.

3. What has been your favorite book to write?

This is a tough one. It would be a toss-up between More Trouble in Loveland, Trouble in Loveland, and Statistically Improbable.

4. Which of your heroes and heroines would you most like to meet in person?

All of them! But some of my top ones would be Ryan and Charlee, Meg and Zander, and Beck and Call.
5. What three words would you use to describe your books?

Character-driven, emotional, real-romance.

Tradition Tuesday

We are so excited for our first annual
Have Yourself a Very Swoony Christmas event,

Traditions are what really make the holidays memorable!
Each Tuesday we will be posting about some of our
favorite Christmas traditions.

KJ will be posting about one of her family's
favorite traditions for Week 2.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

We used to have a lot of traditions growing up. But over the years, with my siblings getting married, having kids of their own and moving out of state, the majority of those traditions have fallen to the wayside.

But there is one tradition that I refuse to stop and that is Christmas breakfast! Whether it's just my dad and I or a few of my siblings and their families, I will ALWAYS have Christmas breakfast! Depending on who's here will determine the menu. Sometimes it's just eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and a big glass of milk (or in my case a Pepsi!). But other times it's eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, pancakes, toast, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, milk.. you name it and we probably have it! It's the BEST!

Over the last few years I have taken over the majority of the cooking and I love it! I've inherited my dad and grandpa's breakfast making genes! And if you ask me it's one of the greatest things I could have inherited from them! 😊

Sweet Morsels Monday

We are so excited for our first annual
Have Yourself a Very Swoony Christmas event,

Welcome to Sweet Morsels Monday!
Mondays can be rough, but nothing can make it better than something sweet.
Each Monday, we'll be sharing a Christmas treat recipe.
Aren't Christmas treats the best?!

For the second week,
KJ will be sharing one of the newest additions to her Christmas treats.

**I am a HUGE peanut cluster fan and a HUGE Rocky Road ice cream fan! So imagine my surprise when I discovered a Rocky Road Peanut Clusters! I just HAD to try them! So I went out the very next day and got all the ingredients. One word... AMAZING! Not only are the super yummy but they are super easy! I hope you guys love them!**

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Rocky Road Peanut Clusters

Ingredients:

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips
1 tbsp vegetable oil OR shortening
1½ cups roasted, lightly salted peanuts
1½ cups miniature marshmallows

Instructions:

1. Line a large baking sheet with waxed paper.
2. Melt chocolate chips, butterscotch chips and vegetable oil together in a large microwave-safe container. I used a Pyrex glass bowl.
3. Heat on high for 30 seconds, stir, repeat, until chips are melted and smooth.
4. Quickly stir in the peanuts and marshmallows.
5. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto the waxed paper. You can make them as large or as small as you like.
6. Let set up in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before packing. Store leftovers (ha!) in an airtight container.

Don't these look and sound amazing?! Let me know what you think if you try them!

The Object of His Affection by Marcia Lynn McClure

The Object of His AffectionThe Object of His Affection by Marcia Lynn McClure
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

While looking for fun Christmas books to read, I realized that I never left a review for this one. Which is so unlike me! So, I decided it’d be the perfect time to read it again and leave a proper review.

This is a really sweet historical romance. Athena and her sisters are left destitute after the death of her parents and her father’s mismanagement of money. To keep their spirits high Athena takes her younger sisters Christmas caroling. She’s embarrassed when they knock on the door of the family who helped ruin her father’s business ventures. Rafe (I forget his last name) feels responsible for the situation Athena and her sisters are in, even though it had nothing to do with him, but he feels he wants to make things right. So he proposes to Athena and says he’ll help take care of and set up her sisters with dowries, etc.

Overall, this was just a fun escape. I liked the London setting at Christmas, the loving relationship between the sisters and of course the sweet romance. A quick and Christmassy escape.

Forever Yours in Christmas Falls by Susan Hatler

Forever Yours in Christmas Falls (Return to Christmas Falls Book 5)Forever Yours in Christmas Falls by Susan Hatler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a sweet coming home story! Morgan has always done what her mother wants, but she’s had enough. Moving back home after eight years away, she’s decided to open her own beauty salon. (Wasn’t sure how her parents didn’t realize she never got an MBA, surely they would have wondered about her graduation, classes, etc). Only snag, the building owner mistakenly leased on the same building to Dallas Parker! Her high school crush and town bad boy. Neither is willing to budge and end up opening a Salon-Furniture Store!

Cute idea for a story, not sure realistically if those two businesses would ever go together (the smell from the hair salon wouldn’t be great for people shopping for furniture. But for the book, I thought it was fun. I liked Morgan and thought Dallas had some swoony moments. I would have loved to know what happened to Dallas’s mom.

I loved the small-town setting and Christmas charm. A sweet story.

Operation: Married by Christmas by Debra Clopton

Operation: Married By Christmas (Mule Hollow Matchmakers)Operation: Married By Christmas by Debra Clopton
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This started out really good, Haley is a runaway bride. For the third time she’s left a man at the alter and this time heads to her hometown, a place she left her first fiancé ten years before. Spark definitely fly when Haley is reunited with Will. Lots of chemistry and unresolved issues. About halfway through, I lost steam and got a little bored. I enjoyed the characters, setting and overall plot, but thought there was a little too much inner-thought and reminiscing. I would have liked more scenes with Will and Haley. Really see them fall in love with each other all over again.

I originally chose this one because it seemed like it’d be a Christmas story and would be perfect for our Christmas Swoon Fest. While it does take place during the holidays (mostly Thanksgiving and pre-Christmas), and they’re working on a Christmas pageant, I just didn’t get the Christmas feel.

Christmas Secrets by Donne Hatch

Christmas SecretsChristmas Secrets by Donna Hatch
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a charming Christmas Regency. I loved the cozy, wintery setting with enough Holiday touches to get me in the Christmassy mood. I thought it had a fun plot and likable characters. I always enjoy Ms. Hatch’s books and am always impressed with her storytelling. I felt transported back in time and loved the fun old Christmas traditions that were woven into the story. Holly was a likable heroine, very much trying to pleas her mother and be a proper young lady. I loved the moments though when she was herself and spoke her mind. The “Ghost” was also a likable character (don’t want to give away his identity haha). I liked how their relationship unfolds and very genuine and real. Overall, a great story and sweet romance.

How to Kiss a Billionaire by Cami Checketts

How to Kiss a Billionaire (Billionaire Beach Romance)How to Kiss a Billionaire by Cami Checketts
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fun!

This was a fun contemporary romance with a touch of suspense. Miriam goes into hiding when her ex boyfriend Greg starts stalking her. Her father is worried about her and asks her old high school friend, Clay Browning, to watch over her until they can catch her ex. Miriam always had a crush on Clay, but he's a ladies man and she wants to be with someone she can trust. Clay always had a crush on Miriam, but she chose Greg over him and he never got over that. Now they're thrown together and the chemistry is off the charts! They try and fight their feelings, but when they're forced to spend so much time with each other and realize how much they enjoy each others company they can't help me explore their feelings.

I enjoyed this one, kept me engaged, I liked the characters and their swoony chemistry. Just a touch of suspense, more focus on H/h relationship. Very little Christmas elements, but it does take place during December and Christmas is mentioned in passing a couple times. Overall, a good read, well written and fun story.

Honeymoon for One in Christmas Falls by Jennifer Peel

Honeymoon for One in Christmas Falls (Return to Christmas Falls #2)Honeymoon for One in Christmas Falls by Jennifer Peel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really loved the setting for this one, I’m a sucker for small-town charm and you throw in all the Christmas charm and I’m hooked! Piper is a single mom, working hard to provide a good life for her adorable son Finn. She stays away from men and is focusing on her career. Especially guys like Jace Peterson, rich, arrogant and made a terrible first impression. Jace has his work cut out for him if he ever wants Piper to see his true character.

This was a fun read, I enjoyed the characters and setting. I look forward to reading the other books in this fun series.

Hot Cocoa Wars by Christene Houston

Hot Cocoa Wars: A Christmas RomanceHot Cocoa Wars: A Christmas Romance by Christene Houston

Isn't that cover so cute!?!

I've really enjoyed the previous books I've read by this author, especially Cookie Girl Christmas! So, I was super excited when I saw she had a new Christmas book coming out right in time for our Christmas Swoon Fest! And the synopsis sounded like a lot of fun too!

I thought this had a fun setting, a little coastal town in California. I liked how the author worked in some Christmas cheer to really give that holiday vibe. I loved the idea of different flavored hot chocolate and was SO bummed that I didn't have any at home to drink while I read! (Advice: have some hot cocoa handy when you read this book!) The plot was cute, Lane is visiting over her Christmas break and wants to help her Aunt with her cocoa shop and help beat the competition a few doors down. I did expect there to be a little more feuding honestly, but the romance kind of pushes that to the background. Logan doesn't make the best first impression, but he's determined to win Lane over. I thought they had a sweet relationship, both very likable and nice people.

Overall, this was a cute and fun holiday read.

Whispering Wednesday

We are so excited for our first annual
Have Yourself a Very Swoony Christmas event,

We're so excited about Whispering Wednesday!
Each Wednesday, we will be having a different author
answering some of our burning questions.

First up, we have one of our favorite steamy clean authors,
Kimberly Krey!

Let's get to know her a little bit better:

1. What gives you inspiration for your characters and story lines?

I have the habit of paying attention to people and what sets them apart. I get inspired by so many thingsDriving by a quaint little business and imagining how it started and when. An adorable house – just the sight of one usually inspires me. I want to write about the person who lives there and takes such good care of the herb garden stacked in the windows, or the well-trimmed hedges out front. But every so often, the ideas seem to uncover seeds that have been planted someplace – maybe in my heart or mind, maybe just out in the universe—whatever it is, I feel inspired to the point that I have to pursue the character who’s come to me, and discover the story I’m meant to share. It’s a truly humbling and fascinating process, and I love it!

2. Which are your top five favorite kissing scenes from your books?

From my books? Ah! I could list a few from Marcia Lynn McClure on the spot, but my own?
Let’s see… How about the PANTRY KISS from Cassie’s Cowboy Crave. I like when Shane takes Cassie into the pantry to get some privacy after being challenged by his nephew to kiss like the other couples do. So that’s one. I’ll call the next one the MUD PIT KISS from Reese’s Cowboy KissWhen Reese and Blake are drawing mud pictures on one another’s back and then guessing what the other has drawn. One declares their love this way, and a steamy kiss follows. Next would be the CARPENTER KISS from Rough EdgesBraden, our carpenter, has a nightmare where Allie reunites with her ex-husband. After a near all-night ride out on the land, Braden is sleep-deprived, frightened of losing her, and desperate to make Allie his. So when she walks into the wood shop that morning, Braden takes her into a quiet nook intending to do just that. Of course he comes to his senses, but not before a very steamy kiss is exchanged. And then we have the SLEEPING KISS from Ranch Hand for Auction. Meg is into Jakeshe can’t deny it. And after a whole lot of flirting and making eyes and getting to know one another, the two order takeout and watch movies one night. Yet as the credits run, Meg realizes that Jake has dozed off. And as she catches sight of Jake’s flawless face and inviting lips, Meg can’t stop herself from giving them one small kiss. And then another. And soon Jake is kissing her back. Last I’ll say the MISTLETOE KISS from Getting Micah Under the Mistletoe. The lovely Quinn has been in love with her guy friend, Micah, for a long time. And when the opportunity to kiss him beneath the mistletoe comes, the kiss is more than she ever dreamt of, causing her hopes for a relationship to soar.

3. What has been your favorite book to write?

I think it’s a tie between Fresh Starts and Sheriff’s Bride. Hiding out on a gorgeous apple orchard with a buff, gorgeous-in-an-entirely-different-way bodyguard? That was such a fun scenario! Of course the stalker added an interesting aspect as well. And with the Sheriff’s Bride, I loved discovering the charming town of Cobble Creek, and all of the possibilities there. Plus Trent is one of my favorite, most admirable characters, and discovering his story was interesting and inspiring.

4. Which of your heroes and heroines would you most like to meet in person?

I think maybe Jade and Gavin. I like how flawed they are, and how open they are about their flaws. There’s something refreshing about them.

5. What three words would you use to describe your books?

I hope they are heart-warminghope-lendingromantic.

The Christmas Boyfriend by Taylor Hart

The Christmas Boyfriend (Return to Snow Valley Romance)The Christmas Boyfriend by Taylor Hart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was super cute!

I always love books that take place in the charming town of Snow Valley. I fell in love with it when they released their first anthology (Snow Valley) and always look forward to when the different authors have stories that take place there. Such a charming, picturesque town!

I really felt for Lacey, I can totally understand her wanting to save face in front of her ex-boyfriend. And I felt bad that she was feeling so much pressure from her family that she felt she had to make up a boyfriend so they’d all stop worrying about her. So the whole Fake Boyfriend thing is a favorite trope for me, and I liked how it was handled in this one. Dom was a great guy, charming and caring and didn’t let Lacey get by with much. I liked that he saw the real Lacey and helped her be her real self. I thought they had good chemistry and I liked that it all didn’t play out how I was expecting.

Overall, a charming read with a fun Christmassy setting!

Content: Clean, just kissing. No violence or bad language.

Every few days, we sit down as a family, grab some popcorn and treats,
and watch some of our favorite shows by the twinkling lights of the tree.

Our Top Ten family favorites are:

Elf
The Polar Express
White Christmas
A Christmas Carol
A Charlie Brown Christmas
It's a Wonderful Life
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Home Alone
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Frosty the Snowman

Of course, I also LOVE many Hallmark Christmas movies as well,
but my husband and kids aren't really into those. 😊
